From Lab to Gallery: Translating STEM Research into Recyclable Exhibition Assets
GLAMSLAM 2026, Australian Museum, Sydney, NSW; 23 April 2026.
Abstract: Integrating sustainable principles into exhibition design requires moving beyond thematic content to physically embodying the circular economy within the production process itself. The Materials Revolution exhibition at UNSW Library achieved this by translating SMaRT Centre research into functional display assets, replacing standard materials with recyclable elements such as 3D-printed e-waste clips and plinths made from reprocessed HDPE. This approach demonstrates how aligning STEM innovation with creative practice can transform the gallery into a demonstrable model for sustainability.
